    I have an African-American daughter. People thought she was my “foster” child. They would tell me how well she behaved. In kindergarten she was told she could not play Snow White in the class play because she is Black. This was 1986 and Los Angeles. I am grateful that some things have improved – such as the attitudes by young people towards “mixed race”. But we still have such a long way to go.
